A 3-day extravaganza of Silent Film which this year celebrates the
De Luxe Theatre’s 85th anniversary as well as New Zealand’s hosting
of the Rugby World Cup!

Buster Keaton in 'The Navigator' and Lloyd Jones narrates from his book based on the 1905 Originals.

The 2011 Festival programme is an exciting combination of the old and the new which befits the celebration of the De Luxe Theatre’s history as well as setting the scene for its future. The past and the present are skilfully brought together via the New Zealand Film Archive’s documentary ‘ALL BLACKS’ introduced on stage by Lloyd Jones, author of THE BOOK OF FAME.

Together with a tantalizing selection of films this year’s Festival heralds an important innovation with the inaugural Silent Film-Making competition sponsored by Horizon Energy. Finalists will have a score especially written for their films by our accompanist, David Beattie, who will be at the Bechstein grand piano for the Finals on the Friday evening September 2nd.

Check out full details of the films we will be showing here.
